  • Tips
  1. Days 1-3 Jo'burg, Blyde River Canyon, Kruger National Park

Leaving Johannesburg, we head towards the pristine Panorama Route. The Panorama Route is one of the most beautiful parts of South Africa connecting the Lowveld and the amazing geological features of the Mpumalanga Drakensberg. One of the major highlights of the region is the Blyde River Canyon Reserve, the third largest canyon of its kind in the world and home to spectacular wildlife and birdlife.

Please note that there is a small entry fee at each of these attractions that will need to be paid upon arrival. The money generated goes toward the support of the local communities. There are also many locals you sell their local crafts in this area.

  2. Days 4-6 Xai Xai (Mozambique) & Inhambane

Leaving the vastness of South Africa behind us as we head toward the beautiful beaches of Mozambique. Today involves us crossing borders from South Africa into Mozambique which can be extremely time consuming which forces us to use today as a transit day as we proceed in search of the never-ending beaches Mozambique has in store for us.

  3. Days 7-8 Vilanculos, Dhow Excursion

After a couple of blissful days spent soaking up the sun on some of the most pristine beaches we pack up and head further north up the coast of Mozambique to Vilanculos. This small little beach town is very popular as it is the gateway to the Bazaruto Archipelago, which is Mozambique’s only underwater national park.

  4. Day 9-10 Bilene, Xai Xai, Hlane National Park

We embark on another early start as we say our goodbyes to the breath-taking scenery of Mozambique and head into every so different Swaziland.

Hlane, named by King Sobhuza II, with its adjacent dispersal areas covers 30 000 hectares of Swazi bushveld, dominated by ancient hardwood vegetation. Hlane is home to lion, elephant and white rhino, with an abundant and diverse bird life, including the highest density of nesting white backed vultures in Africa.

The next two nights will be spent in Hlane Royal National Park which will allow us the up close and personal feeling of nature. Away from any city noises and lights we will be provided the opportunity to hear those sounds of nature and wildlife

  5. Days 11-13 Hlane National Park, Game Drives, Johannesburg

This morning we head out early in search of nature’s most beautiful creations. Hlane’s flagship species include lion, elephant, white rhino, giraffe and hippo, with good populations of kudu, zebra, blue wildebeest, waterbuck, warthog, duiker and impala and a host of lesser-seen mammals. Jackals and hyenas play their very important role in the ecology of the park. Reptiles are well represented, especially snakes, with a number of lizards, two species of tortoise and the Nile crocodile. Insect and arachnid life is abundant, providing an incredible food source for other species.

Meals and menus vary as food is purchased en-route, and is subject to produce that is available seasonally in the areas we travel through. As we support the local communities along the way, fresh produce is mostly purchased direct from the producer or local grower and therefore has an organic appearance. Our safari cooks are able to offer a wide variety of menus with the ingredients available, even if the produce on offer is not of the same selection as what you may be used to back home.

The breakfast spread consists of bread (toast when time allows), spreads and cereals with a hot breakfast every few days. Lunches are mostly prepared en-route with a supply of ‘build your own’ sandwich ingredients available. Dinners are cooked in the evenings on arrival at the campsite. A wide array of dinner menus is on offer during your safari, consisting of curries, stews, pastas, BBQ’s and even roasts!

Our overland vehicles are custom built converted Mercedes Benz or MAN trucks that have seating space for our passengers and a storage area for luggage and all trip equipment. The trucks seat between 27-30 passengers on our camping trips. Most seats are forward facing, though some models have a combination of forward, backward and some inward facing seats with tables. Vehicles have sliding glass windows, and the seating area is raised providing a great advantage for game viewing and photography. Seats are cushioned and there is storage space for personal items like cameras, snacks and day packs in the seating area.

All of the tours operated by ATC are participation trips meaning that all passengers are expected to help out around camp. The crew members running the trip will set up a rota system that will be followed. One day you may be on cleaning duty, the next day you may be on cooking duty and so forth. This is not only to make the trip easier for all involved but also for you as the passengers to get to know one another while on trip.
