Affordable Holiday Accommodation in Tanzania
Are you looking to do something a little different to do on your next holiday and don’t want to break the bank? Are you sold on visiting some of the many exotic locations in Africa but feel you will pay too much and cannot afford these? Finding affordable holiday accommodation in Tanzania is the answer – and choosing a spot a little different far from the madding crowd might be the very answer to your holiday dilemma.
Selous – The Great Game Park of Tanzania:
Think out of the box and choose a game reserve a little off the beaten track.
Selous is not only huge (a little larger than Switzerland, in fact), double the size of the Serengeti and the Kruger National Park in South Africa.
Selous covers over 50 000 square Kms, covers at least 5% of Tanzania’s land and is inhabited by only a couple of rangers and tour operators with over a million animals to enjoy – a breath-taking and cost-effective holiday destination for those that love the great outdoors of Africa.
For those that don’t know, it is the lazy waters of the great Rufiji and its numerous tributaries and outstanding oxbow lakes that make up the wonderful and outstanding features that Selous is most famous for.
The Rufiji River rates as one of Africa’s greatest waterways with its tributaries being a major feature of the Selous Game Reserve with its overabundance of wildlife – especially hippos.
Selous Game Reserve was once the home to the single largest elephant population in Africa with almost 120 000 before the ravages of poaching decimated the elephant population, leaving under 30 000 by the year 1989, but since has recovered reasonably well and now boasts an elephant population in the region of 60 000.
The buffalo tally is said to be in excess of 110 000 and numerous other species of herbivores including impala, buck, zebra, kudu and many others can be enjoyed by those on safari.
The nicest part about visiting Selous Game Reserve is that you can choose to get around the park in a 4 X 4 vehicle or you can explore the park on foot (the best way to do so) accompanied by skilled rangers or even in a boat on the abundant waterways on offer.
Visitors to Selous have only a couple of accommodation options to choose from – many of these offers affordable holiday accommodation in Tanzania. Make a choice from camps and lodges, and a few campsites for those that love to experience the true ‘Out of Africa” experience up close and personal.
